On the night of January 6 to 7, 2026, the carcasses of 43 white-backed vultures were discovered at the Martap bauxite mining site in the Vina Division of the Adamawa region. These birds are a fully protected species and are listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, CITES.
In addition, in order to prevent the possible spread of zoonoses, the Minister has also ordered that the carcasses of these animals be incinerated. Minister Jules Doret Ndongo thus reiterates the government's commitment to continue its fight for the preservation and protection of forest and wildlife species.
