On Thursday, October 30, 2025, a workshop on the planning of the Forest Governance Support Project was held at Relax Palace Hotel in Yaoundé, as part of the implementation of the Forest Governance, Markets and Climate (FGMC) program of the British Cooperation in Cameroon.
Chaired by the Head of the Division for Cooperation and Programming at the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife, the workshop aimed to prepare, through a participatory approach, a project document for strengthening forest governance within MINFOF. Specifically, participants sought to identify solutions to improve forest governance tools in Cameroon, including enhancing the efficiency of the critical governance tool SIGIF 2. The discussions also emphasized the importance of involving various stakeholders in the forest sector to ensure the feasibility and success of this process.
This workshop took place in a context where Cameroon is striving to establish and demonstrate the legitimacy of its national forest governance system. This effort is being carried out in close collaboration with partners, notably the British Cooperation, which is working alongside MINFOF to jointly identify appropriate solutions to improve overall forest governance in Cameroon.
In his closing remarks, the chairperson of the session expressed his gratitude to the British Cooperation, through its FGMC program, an initiative of the UK Government aimed at reducing deforestation and improving governance in developing countries.
