During a routine inspection carried out by members of the AVEBE forest and hunting control post in the Dja and Lobo Division the night of September 25-26, 2025, a consignment of fully protected species was intercepted.
A lawless individual transporting eleven hornbill heads, five panther skins, six elephant tails, three mandrill skulls, one gorilla skull, four gorilla hands, seven mandrill teeth, eight red-tailed parrot heads, and four bundles of red-tailed parrot feathers in a vehicle was arrested.
The offender has been handed over to the Dja and Lobo Divisional Delegation of Forestry and Wildlife, awaiting his transfer to the public prosecutor for further investigation. This latest crackdown by the forestry and wildlife authorities sends a strong signal about the intensification of the fight against poaching under the new forest and wildlife law of July 2024.
