Minister Jules Doret NDONGO has officially launched the sixth phase of the Programme for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (PSMNR) in the South West Region, during a ceremony attended by the Country Director of KfW, Robert Roth. The programme aims to ensure the integrated management of protected areas and their surrounding landscapes, in order to enhance biodiversity and improve the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities. It also promotes the sustainable management of production forests, while mediating land use conflicts around protected areas and wildlife corridors.

During the launching ceremony, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife emphasized that the event marked a pivotal moment and represented a significant step in the ongoing efforts to conserve the country’s rich biodiversity and ecosystems.

As the new phase begins, the Minister expressed hope that it would be implemented with strong commitment to achieving the set objectives and to making a positive impact on the lives of people living in and around the protected areas.

Prior to the launching ceremony and the annual Steering Committee meeting, Minister Jules Doret NDONGO visited the Buea Forest Reserve to gain first-hand insight into the on-the-ground realities — particularly the challenges related to the protection and sustainable management of the reserve. He also discussed strategies to address illegal land allocation and timber exploitation within the protected area.
