The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Mr. Jules Doret NDONGO, presided over the opening ceremony of the workshop on the operationalization of the framework cooperation agreement between Cameroon and Nigeria, aimed at the conservation of cross-border ecosystems and the management of forest and wildlife resources, on Tuesday April 08, 2025 in Kribi.
The agreement was signed on April 19, 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria, following the approval by the leaders of the two neighboring countries, which share a border line of over 1,500km, with protected areas on both sides containing a rich biodiversity.
The task of the participants is to make concrete proposals to be translated into national or cross-border projects and programs. MINFOF took the opportunity to reassure his interlocutors of the government's firm commitment to the implementation of the expected instrument.
Implementation of the Cameroon-Nigeria framework agreement is aimed at supervision and coordination in identified areas of cooperation, ensuring that specific protocols are consistent with agreed areas of cooperation, and collaborating on the implementation of joint cross-border programs.
For the record, the Korup rainforest has been designated a biosphere reserve since June 2023 and the 35th session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme, held in Paris.
