A huge World Bank delegation led by Ms MADHAVI PILLAI, Senior Specialist in Natural Resource Management and Project Manager, was received by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife on Monday March 10, 2025 in the conference room of the government building N°2.
The World Bank team will be in Cameroon from March 10 to 14, 2025, as part of a preparatory mission for the project entitled: Sustainable Forest Economies of the Congo-Multiphase Programmatic Approach: preparatory mission from March 10 to 20, 2025. The purpose of the mission was for the 2 teams - the World Bank and MINFOF - to review the progress made in preparing the project, and to finalize the design of its activities at the national level. It was also a question of examining in detail and finalizing the activities of the project's regional component, under the leadership and responsibility of CEMAC.
Following this, the meeting gave free lead to a frank discussion of the modalities, aiming to benefit from technical support from the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) for the implementation of the said project.
Some of the broad outlines of future activities were reviewed during the discussions. The aim is to develop and enhance the value of the forestry sector, in particular timber and other forestry products; to support the communities that make their living from forestry activities, while striving to protect the natural capital; and to support the government in its policy of structural transformation of the economy.
Through this program, good opportunities will be created that will add value to the forestry sub-sector, creating jobs and boosting the export performance of forestry products. Discussions focused on the next stages of this program, which is still in gestation. The activities will be determined and financed in line with the priorities of the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife.
