The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Jules Doret Ndongo, has officially launched the 2024/2025 hunting season. The event took place at the Garoua Wildlife School campus on February 20th. During the ceremony, the Minister reiterated that forest and wildlife resources are key pillars in the implementation of the **National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (SND30)** for structural transformation and inclusive development.

Thus, the sustainable development and management of these resources are essential intervention strategies to help achieve the objectives of the SND30. Hunting tourism is one of the most suitable approaches for wildlife conservation, as it is not only a sporting, economic, and recreational activity but, above all, a tool for sustainable wildlife management—provided it is conducted in accordance with best practices.

He also emphasized the importance of hunting areas, which serve as crucial interfaces for conservation. As such, the State has a duty to keep these areas active and viable.

Minister Jules Doret Ndongo also used the ceremony as an opportunity to hand over wildlife royalties worth **130,269,633 CFA francs** to local councils and communities managing hunting interest areas, as well as to support the equitable sharing of the resulting benefits from the **2023-2024 hunting season**. This initiative aims to encourage greater involvement in wildlife management and protection, particularly through surveillance efforts, the reporting of poachers, and activities that align with the sustainability of protected areas.
