The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Jules Doret Ndongo, today received in audience the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for Nature, Her Excellency Ruth Davis, for high-level discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the forestry and wildlife sub sectors, notably forest governance, biodiversity conservation, climate action and sustainable development. Great Britain, a long-standing partner of Cameroon is noted for her support for government policy especially its significant contribution made in the implementation of the multi-partner Forest and Environment Sector Programme (FESP) in the 2000s.
The meeting, held in the Conference Hall of the Ministry, underscored the long-standing partnership between the Republic of Cameroon and the United Kingdom in promoting sustainable forest management through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The Minister highlighted Cameroon’s appreciation for the approach used by FCDO, which aligns with the ideals of the Paris Agreement on development assistance through the co-design of the Forest Governance Assistance Project in Cameroon (FGAP), one of the strategic instruments of FCDO. He equally reiterated that MINFOF will ensure that FGAP stands out as an exemplary cooperation wherever necessary.
Minister Jules Doret Ndongo highlighted the Government of Cameroon’s efforts at modernising the forestry sector, enhancing the Second-Generation Forest Information Technology Management System, SIGIF2 traceability system and setting up a publicly recognised system for certifying the legality of forest products. He reiterated the strategic importance of the MoU signed between MINFOF and FCDO on December 2, 2025, and the objectives pursued by the Forest Governance Markets and Climate, FGMC support project at this pivotal moment for the forestry sub-sector.
The UK Special Representative for Nature, H.E. Ruth Davis commended Cameroon’s leadership role in the conservation of the Congo Basin and reiterated the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting partner countries in meeting global environmental goals. She emphasised the importance of collaborative action to address the issues raised through innovative partnerships and inclusive approaches.
